I’ve often shied away from sharing lavender recipes because, let’s be honest—it’s a well-loved herb, and it can feel like everything’s already been done. But this summer, I’ve fallen for lavender all over again, and I can’t wait to explore it more with you!
Lavender is incredibly versatile—perfect for growing in pots on windowsills and patios or tucked into garden beds and landscaping. It’s hardy, forgiving, and beautiful. Plus, it’s useful in both culinary and creative projects.
If you’re looking to cook or bake with lavender, be sure to use English culinary lavender. It adds that signature floral note without overwhelming your recipe. Lately, I’ve been making lavender lemonade—a calming, refreshing drink that’s been a sweet comfort during our big life transition.
You can order dried culinary lavender from my favorite source, Mountain Rose Herbs, or grow your own right at home.
I’d love to see what you’re growing and creating! Tag me on Instagram @a.farm.to.keep and use the hashtag #MyFarmToKeepMake so I can share the inspiration!
Why lavender deserves a spot in your garden
More than just fragrant blooms: Known for its signature soothing scent, lavender is also a flavorful culinary herb. Its buds can be infused into syrups, baked into treats, added to teas, or used in savory dishes to add a subtle floral note. It's also perfect for crafting—think sachets, salves, bath soaks, and more.
A pollinator favorite: Lavender’s purple blooms are a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, helping to support a thriving and healthy garden ecosystem.
Naturally calming and relaxing: Lavender is celebrated for its calming properties. When used in teas, infused waters, or even lemonade, it lends a sense of ease and relaxation, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Thrives in containers: Ideal for patios, balconies, or small-space gardens, lavender does well in pots and containers. Just ensure it gets plenty of sunlight and good drainage to keep it happy and healthy.
